The Golf Club at Texas A&M continues to be a fan favorite among Bryan-College Station golfers, offering a premier course that combines campus history with affordable public access.

Located minutes from the Texas A&M campus, the course traces its roots back to 1951, when it first opened as the Campus Course. The original layout was designed by Ralph Plummer, a regional golf course architect whose work includes multiple courses across Texas. For more than 60 years, Plummer’s design has served students, faculty members, and local residents as a regular part of Aggie campus life.

In 2013, the course underwent a complete renovation and reopened as The Golf Club at Texas A&M. The redesign was led by Texas A&M alumnus Jeff Blume, a Houston-based golf course designer who previously worked with Robert Von Hagge before opening his own firm. Blume has described the project as one of the most meaningful of his career because of its location on campus and its long-term impact.

The renovation altered the course into an 18-hole, par-71 championship layout measuring about 7,008 yards total. Blume drew inspiration from early American golf courses, studying classic layouts in the Northeast before bringing those design ideas to Aggieland. The course now features 158 bunkers placed throughout the layout, motivating strategic play and thoughtful shot selection.

The renovation project also included the addition of a driving range and chipping and putting area, expanding the course’s role beyond recreation. The facility supports university research and classes while remaining open to the public, allowing students and community members to share the space.

“The golf course is a huge upgrade in every way,” said Bucky Richardson, a former Texas A&M and Houston Oiler quarterback. “The Golf Club at Texas A&M is something we can all be proud of.”

For local golfers, the course offers a combination of high quality resources and easy accessibility. Unlike private clubs, The Golf Club at Texas A&M is open to the public and offers pricing options that make regular play more realistic for students, university employees, and overall area residents.

“What I think sets us at the golf club apart from other public golf courses in the area is the ability to have an additional 70,000 possible customers. Being directly on a college campus as large as Texas A&M is, you don’t ever truly have a down season, and always have a new customer base coming in every fall with new students starting their college experience…we are always introduced to an abundance of new customers,” said golf pro Tim Willet.

Its location near campus is another plus. Golfers can play without leaving town or committing to a full-day exhausting trip. Students often fit rounds into their busy academic schedules, while faculty, staff and residents use the course as a convenient place to play or practice.

As Bryan-College Station continues to grow, The Golf Club at Texas A&M has positioned itself as an optimal option for golfers seeking a challenging course, accessible practice facilities, and a strong connection to the university. For many in the community, it has become an indefinite favorite for enjoying your free time.
